October Film Marathon – Day Thirty: Midsommar (2019)

Welcome to my October Film Marathon. Each day I will be watching a Halloween/Autumnal themed film and will be posting a review.

Today is the 30th of October and I will be reviewing one of my all time favourite films, Midsommar!

Wow what a film this is. A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult. Beautiful scenes juxtaposed with brutal gore and strange behaviour are what I love to see in a horror film. Midsommar does not disappoint. Florence Pugh shines in this refreshing twist on the final girl trope.
